Elect Democratic Women and Women Vote Release Ads in Support of Denise Powell for NE-02

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, as part of efforts amounting to over $1M in support, Elect Democratic Women (EDW) and Women Vote are both launching ads to help elect Denise Powell, who is running for Congress in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. The ads will air on Broadcast and cable TV and started on April 18th.

The ads “Protect Nebraska” (by Elect Democratic Women) and “Got to Work” (by Women Vote) highlight Denise Powell’s fight against Nebraska Republicans’ efforts to ban abortion without exceptions — and make clear that if John Cavanaugh wins, Governor Pillen will replace him with an extreme Republican, handing them the votes to pass an abortion ban.

Transcript:

“When Nebraska Republicans tried to ban abortion — no exceptions.

Denise Powell got to work organizing doctors, nurses, and activists — to stop it in its tracks.

She’ll take that fight to Congress.

But if John Cavanaugh wins, Nebraska women lose.

Because Republican Governor Pillen will replace Cavanaugh — with one of his Trump MAGA cronies, to ban abortion entirely — no exceptions.

To protect Nebraska — Vote Denise Powell for Congress.”

This democratic primary has larger implications and could open the door to Republicans’ eliminating Nebraska’s ‘Blue Dot’, passing abortion bans, and gerrymandering the state’s competitive congressional district. Recent polling from GQR found that Denise Powell has a broad base of support and is in a strong position to win this race once voters learn more about her background and positions on key issues. After voters hear both candidates’ messages, Powell leads Cavanaugh 41%-34%.

Elect Democratic Women is the only Member-led PAC dedicated to electing more women to Congress and higher office. Formed in 2018 by Democratic House members, EDW has raised over $40 million, supported over 200 women running for office, and helped elect and re-elect over 100 women to Congress.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot. We’ve raised $990 million to help elect over 1,900 Democratic pro-choice women by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and running one of the most impactful independent expenditure operations for Democrats.
