Elect Democratic Women Congratulates 10 Endorsed Candidates and Frontline Members on their Victories in the California, Iowa, New Jersey, and New Mexico Primaries

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Elect Democratic Women (EDW), the Congressional Member-led committee dedicated to electing Democratic women to Congress, congratulates Connie Chan (CA-11), Jacqui Irwin (CA-26), Marni von Wilpert (CA-48), Karen Bass (LA-Mayor), Christina Bohannan (IA-01), Lindsay James (IA-02), Sarah Trone Garriott (IA-03), Rep. Nellie Pou (NJ-09), Rep. Analilia Mejía (NJ-11), and Secretary Deb Haaland (NM-Gov) on their victories in yesterday’s primary elections in California, Iowa, New Jersey, and New Mexico.

Connie Chan, CA-11: Connie Chan has spent her career serving the people of San Francisco. She currently sits on the Board of Supervisors, where she has led efforts to protect essential services, including creating a $400 million reserve to safeguard health care, housing, and food security, and securing additional support for immigrant legal defense. She will advance to the general election to hold this seat for Democrats.

Jacqui Irwin, CA-26: As a state legislator, former mayor, and mom, Jacqui Irwin has built a record of tackling tough challenges and focusing on what matters most to families — from lowering costs to keeping our communities safe. She will advance to the general election to hold this seat for Democrats.

Marni von Wilpert, CA-48: As a labor attorney, Marni von Wilpert fought to protect employees’ rights and ensure working people can succeed. On the San Diego City Council, she’s delivered real results, authoring California’s first ban on ghost guns to keep communities safe, creating housing grants so teachers can live where they work, and ensuring seniors can afford their groceries. She has advanced to the general election and is in a strong position to win this newly drawn seat.

Mayor Karen Bass, LA-Mayor: Mayor Karen Bass has spent her career in public service, from her roots as a community organizer and physician assistant to her years representing Los Angeles in Congress. As Mayor of Los Angeles, she has prioritized tackling the city’s homelessness crisis, expanding access to affordable housing, and keeping communities safe. Mayor Bass is well positioned to win reelection and continue delivering for the people of Los Angeles.

Christina Bohannan, IA-01: As a law professor, former engineer, mom, and state Representative, Christina Bohannan has been a tireless advocate for Iowa families—fighting to lower costs, improve access to quality health care, and expand opportunity. She has advanced to the general election in this critical toss-up seat.

Lindsay James, IA-02: Lindsay James has dedicated her life to public service—from serving as a chaplain, guiding people through some of their most difficult moments, to leading in the Iowa Legislature, where she has fought tirelessly for working families. She has advanced to the general election to flip this seat blue in November.

Sarah Trone Garriott, IA-03: Sarah is a minister, a mom, a nonprofit leader, and an Iowa State Senator who has dedicated her career to helping folks in their most vulnerable moments and lifting up working families. She has advanced to the general election in this critical toss-up seat.

Congresswoman Nellie Pou, NJ-09: Congresswoman Nellie Pou is a former state legislator and city official who has dedicated her life to improving the lives of New Jerseyans. She will advance to the general election to defend this critical seat for Democrats.

Congresswoman Analilia Mejía, NJ-11: Analilia Mejía is a mom, grassroots organizer, and champion for working families. She handily won a special election in April to make her the 96th woman in the House Democratic Caucus, and her victory tonight solidifies her seat in Congress for a full term. She will advance to the general election to hold this critical seat for Democrats.

Deb Haaland, NM-Gov: Deb Haaland is a former U.S. Secretary of the Interior and proud member of the Pueblo of Laguna who has spent her career fighting for New Mexico families, tribal communities, and working people. Having previously served in Congress and as the first Native American Cabinet secretary in U.S. history, Deb will bring unmatched experience and a deep commitment to the Governor’s office.
