WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Elect Democratic Women (EDW), the Congressional Member-led committee dedicated to electing Democratic women to Congress, congratulates Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08), Christina Hines (MI-10), Shannon Taylor (VA-01), Elaine Luria (VA-02), and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) on their victories in last night’s primary elections in Michigan, Virginia, and Washington.
“Elect Democratic Women congratulates Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet, Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Christina Hines, Shannon Taylor, and Elaine Luria on their victories in last night’s primaries. In Congress, these women will fight for their districts and deliver real results for the communities they serve. From lowering costs to standing up against corruption, they will continue to be champions for working families. EDW is proud to stand behind them because they embody the kind of leadership that builds the coalitions to flip and hold seats, and the grit it takes to serve,” said EDW Executive Director Liz Gallagher.
Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet, MI-08: Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet was elected to Congress in 2024, where she has been a champion for working families. She is a mother of six, a former state senator, and an education policy expert. She will advance to the general election to defend this top-target seat for Democrats.
Christina Hines, MI-10: Christina Hines spent her career as a prosecutor helping victims of sexual abuse and human trafficking, fighting for families, and holding wrongdoers accountable. A mom of three, she grew up in Macomb County in a hardworking, middle-class family. Christina has advanced to the general election in this open, top-tier battleground seat.
Shannon Taylor, VA-01: Shannon Taylor is Henrico County’s top prosecutor, who has spent her career protecting her community. Over three terms as Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney, she has championed programs to support victims of human trafficking, worked to tackle the opioid epidemic, and partnered with law enforcement to get illegal guns off the streets. She has advanced to the general election to flip this crucial red-to-blue seat in November.
Elaine Luria, VA-02: Elaine Luria is a 20-year Navy veteran, small business owner, and former congresswoman who represented Virginia’s 2nd District for two terms. In the Navy, she deployed six times to the Middle East and Western Pacific, and as a civilian, she has fought to lower prescription drug prices, expand veterans’ benefits, and deliver for working families. She will advance to the general election to flip this critical Hampton Roads seat in November.
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, WA-03: Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has served in Congress since 2023, where she has been a relentless advocate for Washington state — fighting to lower costs, protect reproductive freedom, and keep her community safe. She is a small business owner who co-runs an auto repair shop with her husband. Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez will advance to the general election to defend one of the most competitive seats in the country.
