WASHINGTON, DC – Elect Democratic Women (EDW), the Congressional Member-led committee dedicated to electing Democratic women to Congress, congratulated Marni von Wilpert on her primary victory in California’s 48th Congressional District. Marni has advanced to the general election and is in a strong position to win this newly drawn seat for Democrats.
“Marni von Wilpert has a strong track record of fighting for her community and winning — from the courtroom, where she championed workers’ rights, to the San Diego City Council, where she has delivered real results time and again,” said Liz Gallagher, Executive Director of Elect Democratic Women. “She led the charge to ban ghost guns, fought to make communities more affordable for the teachers who serve them, and has never stopped working to ensure families have the tools they need to get ahead. The House majority will be won by women like Marni, and Elect Democratic Women is proud to stand with her heading into November.”
Elect Democratic Women was an early strategic investor in supporting Marni’s campaign. EDW ran a $300,000 targeted digital independent expenditure program beginning in April, helping her gain momentum. EDW then invested a further $100,000 in May to help her get over the finish line. EDW could not be more proud to see Marni advance to the general election to win this crucial pick-up seat and win back the majority.
As a labor attorney, Marni von Wilpert fought to protect employees’ rights and ensure working people can succeed. On the San Diego City Council, she’s delivered real results, authoring California’s first ban on ghost guns to keep communities safe, creating housing grants so teachers can live where they work, and ensuring seniors can afford their groceries.
