WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Elect Democratic Women, the congressional member-led political action committee dedicated to increasing the number of women in Congress and higher office announced its endorsement of Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) for Mayor of Los Angeles.
“Karen Bass is an incredible colleague and trailblazer for women. Her commitment to strengthening our democracy and fighting for racial and gender equality has been unmatched. During her time in Congress, Karen has displayed impeccable leadership and a fierce determination to improve the lives of women and families, and we know she will bring that same energy to the city of Los Angeles,” said Rep. Julia Brownley (D-CA).
“Rep. Bass is an example of a true public servant. Before we had the pleasure of working with her in Congress, she was a powerful member of the General Assembly and the first African-American woman to serve as Speaker of the California State Assembly. Her commitment to the greater Los Angeles area is extraordinary. We will miss her as a colleague in Congress but are thrilled to see the transformative change she can make as Mayor of Los Angeles,” said Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA).
Elect Democratic Women was formed in 2018 by Democratic members of Congress with the purpose of electing more Democratic women to Congress, based on the understanding that democracy is best served by a diverse Congress that reflects the people they represent. The PAC has expanded its reach to supporting Democratic women running for higher office. Chaired by Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL), the Board includes Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH), Rep. Julia Brownley (D-CA), Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL), Assistant Speaker Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA), Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH), and Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA).
