WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Elect Democratic Women (EDW), the Congressional Member-led committee dedicated to electing Democratic women to Congress, released the following statement on Republicans in Congress shutting down the government rather than working with Democrats to help Americans afford health care.
“After ripping health care away from almost twenty million Americans earlier this year, it’s no surprise that Republicans in Congress would rather shut down the government than work with Democrats to address a looming health care crisis. Their reckless funding bill would leave millions of Americans facing skyrocketing health care costs, doubling insurance premiums, and forcing many families to lose coverage altogether. This will have a rippling effect on entire communities, causing severe strain on the delivery of health care services. Next November, voters will hold Republicans accountable for their refusal to protect the health of the American people,” said Elect Democratic Women Chair, Rep. Lois Frankel.
