WASHINGTON, DC –– Today, Elect Democratic Women (EDW) announced an Independent Expenditure from their sister PAC, Pro-Choice Women for Rep. Marcy Kaptur in OH-09.
The group is investing $425k in a Broadcast TV ad, “Suffer”, which focuses on Derek Merrin’s extreme stance on abortion, noting that he led the effort to pass a total ban without exceptions and pushed a law that would punish women with life in prison.
This investment comes after Elect Democratic Women Announced over $2M in investments from Pro-Choice Women and Elect Democratic Women PACs to support candidates Rep. Yadira Caraveo (CO-08), Christina Bohannan (IA-01), Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08), Rep. Emilia Sykes (OH-13), Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03), and Rebecca Cooke (WI-03).
“Families in Ohio deserve to be represented by a proven leader and someone who will fight to protect their freedoms, not strip their rights. Rep. Marcy Kaptur is a champion for the freedom of women to make their own personal healthcare decisions. Elect Democratic Women is proud to continue supporting Marcy’s campaign and looks forward to welcoming her back to the 119th Congress,” said Elect Democratic Women Chair, Rep. Lois Frankel.
Script: “Suffer”
[Dr. Henna Patel] Derek Merrin is just too extreme on abortion.
He led the effort to pass a total ban with no exceptions for rape, for incest, even to save a woman’s life. And pushed a law that would punish women with life in prison.
He said he will not give up trying to ban abortion. A national ban would override Ohio’s constitution and women will suffer.
We can’t let Derek Merrin ban abortion in Ohio.
